About the Department

The Department of Information Technology (IT) was established in the year 2011 with the sanctioned intake of 60 students to facilitate the evolution of problem solving skills along with the knowledge application in the field of Information technology, understanding industrial and global requirements for the benefit of the society.

The department was certified with ISO 9001:2015. The Department has the state –of-the-art facilities for various laboratories, a well-equipped seminar hall, Wi-Fi enabled class rooms to support e-learning with Projectors and a department Library. The Department is currently in the process of NBA and NAAC.

Though the main focus is on academic excellence of students, faculty members motivate the students to participate in technical activities for enhancing their fundamental technical knowledge. Students are also encouraged to participate in various inter-disciplinary and industry sponsored contests as well as cultural events in and outside the college. Our students make best use of these opportunities and bring laurels to the Department.

Regular training programs are conducted to enhance the employability of our students. The training programs focus on enhancing their soft skills and programming ability. In addition to the co-curriculum activities, a wide range of value added courses are also available in order to improve and refine the overall potential of the students.

The Department of Information Technology is associated with Computer Society of India – Chennai Chapter (CSI).

We have a strong Alumni team who are placed in well reputed MNCs’ across the globe from Codingmart, Amazon, etc. Despite their busy schedule, they make themselves available on the campus to help the students during the placement training process by conducting mock interviews, group discussions, guest lectures, and motivational talks.

Programmes offered by the Department are:

• B.Tech (Information Technology) – Intake of 60 Students.

Teaching and Learning Enhancement:

• As a part of our regular e-Learning Initiative that aims at effective use of current technology to enhance the teaching-learning process and to make it learner driven the department maintains individual course pages which hosts the Syllabus, Lesson Plan, Lecture Notes and other reading materials to conduct Value added courses like Machine Learning, Advanced Java Programming, Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Big data Analytics, MERN Stack Developer, Android Application Development.

• Periodic guest lectures, workshops are organized for the benefit of students to supplement their curriculum. This facilitates our students to enrich their knowledge and to update the current industry trends.

Research Activities:

• At Present Five Faculties are pursuing their Ph.D. in Anna University.

• Focussing on Research, Faculties are doing research work to publish papers in Web of science and Scopus.

Industry Interaction

•5 MOUshave been signed till now. MOUs Signed with Automation Anywhere, Softura, Auriseg, Techgig and TroonDx.

Seminar Hall

• To conduct special seminars covering latest developments and trends in the field of Computer Science, a fully equipped Seminar Hall with seating capacity of 90 is attached with the department.

• The equipment cover one Overhead Projector, one LCD projector and Black board.

Class Rooms

• Each class room is furnished with an Overhead Projector, one LCD projector, and a dedicated Laptop to support the e-Learning process. The class rooms are Wi-Fi enabled class rooms to support the e-Learning Initiative.

M2: Develop the standard for higher studies and perpetual learning through creative and critical thinking for the effective use of emerging technologies with a supportive infrastructure.

M4: Enrich students with professional integrity and ethical standards that will make them deal social challenges successfully in their life.


PEO 1: To support students with substantial knowledge for developing and resolving mathematical, scientific and engineering problems.

PEO 2: To provide students with adequate training and opportunities to work as a collaborator with informative and administrative qualities.

PEO 3: To motivate students for extensive learning to prepare them for graduate studies, R&D and competitive exams.

PEO 4: To cater students with industrial exposure in an endeavour to succeed in the emerging cutting edge technologies.

PEO 5: To shape students with principled values and to follow the code of ethics in social and professional life.


PSO 1: Students are able to analyse, design, implement and test any software with the programming and testing skills they have acquired.

PSO 2: Students are able to design and develop algorithms for real time problems, scientific and business applications through analytical, logical and problems solving skills.

PSO 3: Students are able to provide security solution for network components and data storage and management which will enable them to work efficiently in the industry.


Engineering Graduates will be able to:

1.Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, Engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2.Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

3.Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

4.Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

5.Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6.The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

7.Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

8.Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

9.Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

10.Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

11.Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

12.Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

The inaugural function of CSI Student Branch in Jeppiaar Institute of Technology was held on 23rd January 2013. The Chief Guest Mr. Rajan T Joseph, Director (Education) , Computer Society of India, Chennai inaugurated the CSI Student Branch and enlightened the students about open source, technical skills and managerial skills. The initial intake of CSI-Student Branch is 82 Students.

Memorandum of Understanding


The agreement aims to promote a sustainable framework for the present and future partnership, by setting up an IOT lab and co-operative action between Jeppiaar Institute of Technology and Softura by promoting technical education in futuristic technologies for the betterment of humanity.


Signed Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with TROON DX Pvt. Ltd on 09.10.2019 to set up a Laboratory on Block Chain, Data Science and Big Data Analytics. This MOU will help our students stay updated with the emerging and future technologies.


This MOU has been signed to enhance the institutes interaction with the industry in Cyber security
